Alissa Fate, destiny, chance?

I've been at a crossroad for sometime now. And the thought of whether fate, destiny and chance pops into my mind every now and then. I'm curious what your thoughts are. How much do you leave to destiny, if any? Does chance have anything to do with it? It can't just be luck or at least I hope not because I'm not the luckiest person out there. Or in the end will fate run it course and lead you to where your supposed to be. What does that even mean? Continue

K Sawyer Paul Changing a few things around

Hey all, Has everyone had a chance to check out our new front page, www.gredunzapress.com? We're beginning to really like it. But don't take it as us abandoning this part of the site. Far from it! We have lots and lots planned. What we are doing today is putting the focus of the site on the members themselves (that's you guys) by putting blog posts and photos front and center and moving the forum over to the left. Basically, everyone on the left is stuff from the main site (forum, twitter, and… Continue

Alissa Fully Recovered

So it's been almost 2 weeks since the 3 day novel contest. I know we're all sick of hearing about it now...but I thought I stick my two pence in anyway. :) Overall, I still feel that the contest is for crazy people. It was intense, sitting a writing for 3 days straight drove me mad. By Monday afternoon, I became delirious with the story and angry when it had decided to finish not even halfway through to 100 pages. I stalked around my laptop reasoning with it, trying to understand why it had to e… Continue

Maddison Barksdale Writing Formula?

As a few of you know, I am only thirteen so therefore I am still in school. And one of the biggest things that bothered me happened in my English class. Now, I know a lot of people have different opinions on this but is there really and truly a writing formula. My English teacher had us write out a formula to write a paragraph. It went a bit like this: (TS)- Topic Sentence (D1)- Detail one (E1)- Elaboration 1 (etc.) And then finally the (C) Conclusion sentence. For some reason this bothered m… Continue

K Sawyer Paul On Dan Brown

Daniel Kaszor gets it right entirely as he reviews (and nails to the wall) The Lost Symbol: The Da Vinci Code has sold an estimated 80 million copies in more than forty languages; critically, however, it is generally — though not universally — reviled (and if the critical response isn’t negative enough, you should spend some time on-line in book and writContinue

Maddison Barksdale I am a writing train wreck...

I cannot seem to stick to a story! I keep coming up with different ideas and, I'm so frustrated. But as you guys know, I have conjured up a whole other story idea so I decided to tell you the plot? --------------------------------------- Okay, this time I'm writing about the metal illness Stockholm Syndrome. It takes place in Uvalde, Texas, 1982. The girl get's captured by a boy her age in the woods near her home. But the only reason she was abducted was because she witnessed him commi… Continue

K Sawyer Paul Would you rather be an artist or a whore?

I've got a small problem with this article I just came across: Clearly, literary fiction sells less than mass market popular fiction. Now, I love books of all kinds. I have a lot of literary fiction, stacks of non fiction and many popular fiction novels (although those often get recycled through second-hand bookshops!) I go to Writers Festivals, I have taken writing courses.Continue

Kevin Paul Three Day Writathon!

People reading K Sawyer's tedious discussions will know that the three day novel contest is this long weekend from Saturday to Monday. Anyone wishing to compete in this endurance contest should be warned that you could fail on the very first day unless you plan ahead. I planned ahead and wrote down outlines for the plot, setting, characters, and theme of my story. K Sawyer contrasted this with his usual laze-offensive that consists of weari… Continue

K Sawyer Paul The new Sony Readers are awesome, and might actually help tip the scales

Today, Sony held the press conference to announce the two previously rumoured readers, plus a new one. The first one is a no-brainer. It's $199, 5 inches, and built for portability and to do one thing extremely well: read novels. The second one sort of suffers from middle-child syndrome: touch screen (which creates glare, which destroys the point of an ebook… Continue

Kevin Paul Three Chapters finished!

I finally finished my first three chapters of that novel I've been working on for two months. A lot of planning went into the first three, since these three are the most important. The rest of the story should go by relatively smoothly now. So if anyone wants to read it go ahead and I'm open to any kind of intellectual criticism so that i can turn this piece of crap into an okay to look at piece of crap.… Continue

K Sawyer Paul I'm probably going to buy one of those Sony Readers

Seems inevitable, and it's the only one on the market (not to mention the projected market) that is in any way open (epub!), accessible (sold in every country!), hackable (Soduko!) , and portable (ie, not a 10 inch tablet). Also, I look at my bookshelf and I just don't want another bookshelf. I'm kind of sick of killing trees, and the 300 Reader looks like the best version of the future any of these companies have come up with. Continue

K Sawyer Paul Two somewhat contradictory quotes

Yesterday on the Gredunza news and links, I linked to this blog and gave this incredible quote: "Never mind the bollocks. You are not writing for Amazon, or to fit a staff proofreader’s vacation schedule, as important and real as those considerations may be. You are writing for readers, a duty as sacred, in its way, as parenting. If you don’t believe the previous sentence, if you think writing is mainly abouContinue

Alissa my bio

Alright new dilemma is writing my own bio. I've only really had to do this once before. It took me a week to write a paragraph. I don't know what to write. If I were to character sketch myself I don't think I would have a problem but this is more like presenting myself and I feel at a loss for words. Any thoughts? Continue

K Sawyer Paul New Sony Readers

The ebook world is all a flutter over rumours of new Sony readers coming out as soon as next month. Sony does a lot of things wrong, and their current readers haven't been perfect (touchscreens on readers is a bad idea), but these two new models, if they are in fact what we're going to receive as consumers, don't appear to be all that great. The higher end mo… Continue

Jon Sumait finished with my new plotline.

it was a good break from writing, I guess. I took the time to watch movies, to read books, to gather up any type of ideas i can conjure up from the inspiration. My plan was to put in a new ending for my story. But after a few hours thinking it over and trying to figure out how things would all fit together, I ended up still loving my original ending. I think I like reading and writing tragedies. romeo and juliet, i think, had the perfect ending. Now, it's been a while since I read it, but they… Continue

Alissa When do you know it's time to stop?

I've been on this last edit of my book since last September. The good news is that I've finished the difficult part is I don't know if I'm done. After I handed my file over for the final edit I went home and went through another edit. I've typed it up and I can send it off. But I can't help but think about a couple of turning points that I'm sure I can make better. When do you know it's time to stop editing? Continue

K Sawyer Paul Finished chapter 5

I swear, Chapter 5 of my book nearly made me scrap the whole project. It's the lead-in chapter to the big montage of chapter 6 where every single of my characters change directions in one way or another, and so chapter 5 was all about putting the pieces in the right places for that to happen. I am not a choreographer. My best scenes have always just been two people talking about something inane that leads to something (hopefully) sublime. This whole "move the characters around" kind of writing d… Continue

Jon Sumait in need!

I'm in need of resources for the following: Great action scenes. Compelling plotlines. Witty and clever dialogue. Funny jokes and punchlines. Epicness? lol. Movies, tv shows, animes, songs, poems, anything really. Preferably your favorite "_________" favorite movie, blah blah blah, etc. haha. please and thank you's if I get any responses. =] i have a very humble collection of movies, myself, so I'll be watching a marathon of them after I get back from the airport tomorrow. lol. And yea. 0.0… Continue

Jon Sumait Revised Chapter 2

Actually, while I'm in the mood, I'm going to post chapter 2 also haha. It seems people are either busy with their lives or taking a break from their writing, so hopefully I can keep the torch lit with these new blogs. Again, I would love any feedback =] Tips, hints, tricks, comments, ideas, etc. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. I’m happy to be done with that job. 2. I’m happy for sun-dried raisins. 3. I’m happy to b… Continue
